Facebook has announced that the Periscope-style live video broadcast feature it launched in the U.S. last month will be rolling out to more than 30 new countries “in the coming weeks” – though it hasn’t revealed which ones. The feature also made its way across to U.S. Android devices today. Last month, we announced that we planned to start bringing the ability to broadcast live to countries around the world, and now people in more than 30 countries can share live video via iOS....

Eye-Fi today announced they will updating their X2 wireless memory cards in 2011 with a new ‘Direct Mode’ feature. This new mode sounds pretty neat and helpful and it uses resources from the wireless memory card technology and the mobile Eye-Fi apps. Basically, the mode lets you instantly, wirelessly transfer pictures you take on your camera to your phone, tablet, or devices with supported Eye-Fi apps (App Store). Eye-Fi also announced a new feature that allows users to wireless backup videos and pictures saved to the wireless Eye-Fi x2 card to their online Eye-Fi accounts....

There are plenty of security engineers working at Facebook to ensure that its users are being protected and the company is also partnering with Kaspersky Lab to fight against malicious software. Thus, from now on, if it detects that an account is behaving suspiciously and appears to be infected, Facebook will recommend a free anti-malware scan, a technology provided by the Russian security company. Facebook is also a major target for phishers, with Kaspersky saying that 1 in 5 phishing scams target Facebook notifications....

Facebook’s boss Mark Zuckerberg appeared today before the crowd of journalists summoned at the company’s Palo Alto headquarters to reveal new Facebook features designed to tackle the Google+ threat. He began by saying that the industry is quickly approaching an inflexion point where focus will be on apps rather than the number of registered users. Facebook has over 750 million users, he said. Facebook Messenger is adding support for what it calls “message replies.” Essentially, this feature allows for threaded messages, giving you the ability to reply specifically to one message without cluttering up the full message thread. To access the new message replies feature, you simply long-press on a message and tap the new reply icon. From there, your response will be sent and directly attached to the original message. Gizmodo ran a piece a couple of days ago suggesting that Facebook uses the phone number you provide for two-factor authentication in order to target you with ads. Although the company previous suggested that it didn’t deliberately misuse security details, it has now admitted that it does in fact do this … Facebook has long used your profile information to serve you with personalized ads. For example, if you include your mobile number in your profile, and you also provided your number to an online store, the two numbers can be matched so the store can identify you as a customer....

At SXSW this week, Facebook has announced new features for its Facebook Watch platform, as well as integration with Spotify. Facebook is rolling out Watch Party support for live TV, while also making it easier to listen to full songs through Spotify. Facebook’s Watch Party feature allows users to watch videos together in real-time, and now it will support live TV in addition to videos already on Facebook. This means users will be able to talk about what’s currently airing on live TV through the Watch Parties platform:...

The app made an accidental appearance a few days ago, but was later pulled away from the Apple’s App Store. The app is now available on both iOS and Android — at least for US customers… for real.
