Facebook today has announced the latest Snapchat-like feature coming to Messenger. Called World Effects, this feature allows users to drop 3D objects using the rear camera and augmented reality, much like augmented reality features in Snapchat. The World Effects feature is very similar to Snapchat’s rear-facing augmented reality tools. You can overlay a variety of objects and text using the built-in camera. Currently, Facebook says there’s support for a heart, arrow, and robot, while there are bubbles and words that read “love,” ‘bae,” “heart,” and “miss you....

Facebook’s new product experimentation team has released a new Apple Watch app today called Kit, which is designed to easily let you “talk to your closest friends.” While Facebook Messenger already offers an Apple Watch app, the goal of Kit is to focus specifically on close contacts. Kit, which stands for Keep in Touch, was released on the App Store today and first noted by TechCrunch. To get started with the app, you first scan the QR that appears on your Apple Watch to link it to your Facebook account....

Facebook announced updates regarding mobile today at its Mobile Developer Conference in New York City continuing its effort to transition to a mobile-first platform. Shortly after Dropbox announced it had shut down its popular Mailbox and Carousel apps, Facebook has made a similar move by removing a handful of its apps from the iOS App Store and shutting down the division that created them. The interview comes a day after FastCo published a sizeable excerpt from the book Becoming Steve Jobs, in which Cook criticized the portrayal of Jobs in Isaacson’s biography.
