Square Enix released a free demo for the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake on the PS4 this morning, marking the first time general audiences will have access to it. This is incredibly exciting news for the gamers around the world who have been waiting years to finally experience this critically acclaimed entry in the series remade.

The demo was released at 2 a.m. EST via the official FFVII Remake Twitter account and has since received over 30,000 Likes and 13,000 retweets. The demo itself is roughly 7.5 GB and features the first chapter of the game, beginning with AVALANCHE’s assault on the Mako reactor and finishing after the first boss fight against the Guard Scorpion.

Most importantly, this is also players’ first chance to interact with the game’s new mechanics and elements, as the battle system, camera angles, soundtrack, and controls have been redesigned and reworked. Although there is no shortage of footage online of the first chapter specifically, players will finally be in control of Cloud and Barrett again for the first time in 23 years.

This is a momentous occasion for both longtime fans of the series and newcomers alike. Although the game’s official release isn’t until next month, today is the first day that gamers will be able to actually play the FFVII Remake on their home consoles. After garnering so much attention since the remake was first announced, this demo will surely attract newcomers to the Final Fantasy series as well.
