Fear the Walking Dead is the spinoff of AMC’s The Walking Dead, which also happens to be the most successful show on cable. The spinoff hasn’t found the same success as the original Walking Dead TV series - but with its unique setting and cast of characters, it has found a dedicated fanbase that have driven the series into a third season.
AMC has been keeping any and all details about the newest season of Fear the Walking Dead close to the vest, as the show has been shooting in Baja Mexico. The end of the second season found much of the cast reunited, with a few left in even more dangerous places than they started.
It begins with an official synopsis for the third season of Fear the Walking Dead:
[vn_gallery name=“Fear the Walking Dead Season 3 First Look Images” id=“913172”]
“As Fear the Walking Dead returns for season three, our families will be brought together in the vibrant and violent ecotone of the U.S.-Mexico border. International lines done away with following the world’s end, our characters must attempt to rebuild not only society, but family as well. Madison (Kim Dickens) has reconnected with Travis (Cliff Curtis), her apocalyptic partner, but Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) has been fractured by her murder of Andres. Madison’s son mere miles from his mother, Nick’s (Frank Dillane) first action as a leader saw Luciana (Danay Garcia) ambushed by an American militia group — the couple escaped death, but Nick no longer feels immortal. Recovering both emotionally and physically, Strand (Colman Domingo) has his sights set on harnessing the new world’s currency, and Ofelia’s (Mercedes Mason) captivity will test her ability to survive and see if she can muster the savagery of her father.”
Both the photos and the synopsis reveal that leading man Victor Strand (Colman Domingo), will be returning to Fear the Walking Dead, even after he remained in the relative safety of the hotel and the rest of the cast continued onward. This material also confirms that Luciana (Danay Garcia), has survived the gunshot wound she suffered - for the immediate future. These are two surprisingly hopeful rays of sunlight in a relatively dark show.
There is quite a lot of information here from AMC about the upcoming Fear the Walking Dead season. It is nice to have confirmed that the show will remained focused in its separate part of the larger Walking Dead Universe. There is always the concern that the spinoff characters will encounter the Walking Dead cast, which would seem to rob these new characters of everything that makes them special. The geographical barrier between the two groups would seem to do that job, but one never knows.
Conversely, the synopsis does not hint at what the major conflict of the season will be; rather, it focuses on tying up loose ends in Fear the Walking Dead season 2 and making sure that the audience is well caught up before the next season is set to premiere. This may leave some fans doubting who the major villain will be, but perhaps that will be an important reveal.
Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC in June.
