Fanboys writer Adam F. Goldberg wants to create a sequel with Ready Player One creator Ernie Cline centered on a group of fans trying to steal Justice League’s Snyder Cut. Two years after its theatrical release, the Zack Snyder flick remains at the forefront of pop culture conversation thanks to the ongoing Release the Snyder Cut movement. The campaign, which started shortly after the film released, demands Warner Bros. to release the original cut of the film with Junkie XL’s (the initial composer before Danny Elfman stepped in) score.
At this point, Justice League’s tumultuous production is already widely accepted. It was plagued with various issues including multiple script rewrites, a studio-mandated two-hour runtime, as well as notoriously hectic reshoots manned by Joss Whedon. At the heart of the conversation, however, lies fans’ continued support for Snyder and his version of the movie. In the last couple of years, discussion about whether or not it exists haunted the Release the Snyder Cut movement, with the director only more recently explicitly confirming that it actually does. While everyone waits if this will be enough for Warner Bros. to finally cave, a brand new project may be in the works in conjunction to the situation, and this time, it could focus on the die-hard proponents of the campaign.
Quoting a tweet from a parody account about him working on the said project, Goldberg revealed that he’s down to officially push through with a Fanboys sequel focused on a group of Snyder Cut campaigners - if Cline will join him. It didn’t take long for fans to flock the tweet and expressed their excitement over the idea. Check out the writer’s post below:
For context, Fanboys is a 2009 comedy film that depicted a group of die hard Star Wars friends sneaking into Skywalker Ranch in the hopes of stealing a rough cut of The Phantom Menace. The film is set in 1999 at the height of Lucasfilm kicking off the prequel trilogy. Directed by Kyle Newman, it starred Sam Huntington, Chris Marquette, Dan Fogler, Jay Baruchel and Kristen Bell. Meanwhile, Cline and Goldberg wrote its screenplay. Fanboys also featured cameos from actors who appeared in the movies such as Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa) and Ray Park (Darth Maul).
Given its story’s links to the Star Wars franchise, George Lucas was able to see it before releasing in theaters, allowing him to give the movie his stamp of approval. Assuming that the new plan for a Justice League Snyder Cut supporter-centric Fanboys sequel pushes through, it’s curious if he filmmakers will also give the same treatment for Snyder. Whether or not this movie will actually push through remains a question, nevertheless, there doesn’t seem to be any scarcity when it comes to interest from the public for it.
