A first look image from Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier shows Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) teaming up. Marvel’s Disney+ shows are among the most anticipated projects of the year, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be the first to debut. It follows Bucky and Sam in the wake of the events of Avengers: Endgame as they adjust to life without their best friend Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and embark on a new adventure. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will also see the return of fellow MCU characters Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) and Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl).
The first trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier debuted last night during the Super Bowl, offering fans their first glimpses of Sam and Bucky in action. It was also the first time fans got to see Sam using the Captain America shield, which was given to him by Steve at the end of Endgame. One of the plot points of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier reportedly will center on the U.S. government’s reluctance to put Sam in the role of Captain America, instead choosing someone else for the job. Further plot details beyond that are unknown, but now fans at least have a new look at Sam and Bucky working together.
Posted by Stan on Instagram, the picture is one that was previously shown at CCXP last fall. This time, though, it’s better quality and comes from one of the actors himself. Stan previously shared the first official picture of Bucky from the series. Check out the latest one below:
Sam and Bucky have had a rather contentious relationship in the MCU so far, with the two of them often bickering while teaming up. Steve was the person who brought them together, but with him now an old man, he won’t be around to smooth out any disagreements that come between Sam and Bucky. It will be interesting to see how the two come to work together, even if they continue to fling insults along the way. Especially if they continue to fling insults along the way.
They’re going to have to learn to get along fast, because there are two potential villains on the horizon. The return of Zemo from Captain America: Civil War spells trouble for the duo, especially since Zemo’s actions in that film directly impacted Bucky. Beyond Zemo, there’s Sam’s rival for the Captain America position, John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell). Set photos along with the Disney+ teaser suggest Walker has already taken the job, which will likely cause friction between him and Sam. Hopefully a full-length trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be released soon so that fans can get some real information.
