Just when you’d think we had the The Fast Saga all figured out, the latest film has brought up a bunch of questions to do with the series. F9 has interest around it at great lengths, owing to the three-year gap between sequels.
Fans have had multiple queries they’d loved to have resolved, and the hope is that F9 will indeed go about in answering these questions. In order to bring the matter up to speed, we’ve put together 10 questions that have proven to be the most popular ones, with the hope that the burning curiosity around these does get resolved in F9.
Is Jakob Dom And Mia’s True Brother?
There’s a bit of confusion going around in this regard as the film’s trailer only identified Jakob out to be Dom’s brother, despite the fact that Mia was also in the same room at the time. Although the assumption is that Jakob is Mia’s sibling too, the question remains if he’s related to Dom and Mia by blood.
After all, the series is notorious for having characters refer to themselves as family, going so far as to have them be reluctant to call each other friends. This leaves the possibility that Jakob might be Dom’s “brother” in name only, something that we want to learn the truth about.
Where Are Hobbs And Shaw?
There’s been a lot of jokes at the expense of the characters and how they’re missing in F9, and we want to know the reason why they’re not in on the fun. Hobbs & Shaw did a poor job in placing Hobbs on his own, considering he had his buddies to ask for help but never did.
This has made F9 the movie to turn towards for an explanation as to why Hobbs is suddenly estranged from his friends, and Shaw’s status is also up in the air since his mother is in fact appearing in this film.
Why Did Dom Keep His Brother’s Identity A Secret?
It doesn’t take long for Dom to consider someone as part of family, seeing as he even forgave Deckard Shaw despite the latter’s attempts to kill the heroes. This makes it curious as to why Jakob’s existence was kept a secret from almost everyone.
While Letty was shown to be aware of Jakob’s connection to Dom, the rest of the crew clearly have no clue who he’s supposed to be. Dom avoids keeping secrets from his friends, so why would he not share this personal secret?
What Is Brian’s Status?
We wouldn’t have asked this question had Mia not been included in F9, since The Fate of the Furious had referenced the two being off in their retired lives. Now that Mia is back, there’s a major question mark over Brian’s status.
Some are of the opinion that Brian might be deceased as the actor that portrayed him, while others believe Brian is simply sitting this adventure out. We’ll only know for sure once F9 is released and we can see for ourselves.
What Happened Between F8 And F9?
F9 has taken great lengths in showing the passage of time between it and the previous installment, as this is the first time that characters have drastically different appearances. With Dom’s child clearly a few years older now, there’s no question that the elapsed time is significant.
Considering that something major is the reason why they’re all brought back together, there’s no doubt that the characters were up to different things in the interim. We’d like to know just how Dom has been spending his time away from action and if everyone was in contact all this time.
Why Does Jakob Despise Dom?
While Dom’s turn toward the villainous side in The Fate of the Furious was shrouded in mystery before release, there’s been no secret to Jakob’s hatred of his brother so far. We have Cipher’s claims to derive from, in that Jakob apparently wants to best Dom in every frontier.
However, given that Dom has never been the competitive type, it doesn’t add up why Jakob would see this as an issue, which makes us wonder if there’s a different reason why Jakob hates his brother.
How Did Han Survive?
This question has been at the tip of everyone’s tongue ever since the trailer dropped, although fans had been wondering if Han had really died back in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift or not. Now that we know he’s alive, we have to know how that happened.
It would be a great injustice if the matter was waved over with a silly explanation, as the curiosity over how Han managed to escape a blazing car that we seemingly saw him die in is sky high.
What Are Cipher’s True Motives?
By this point, it’s clearly not just the generic world domination scheming that Cipher is in for, as bringing in Dom’s brother has to be due to things becoming too personal between herself and the heroes.
However, there still seems to be something missing in this dynamic, as Cipher’s utter obsession with Dominic and her taste for causing him harm seems to carry another reason. All we want to know is what Cipher’s overall plan is supposed to be - does she want to control the world, or does she just want to hurt Dom?
Why Wait So Long For Han’s Survival To Be Known?
From the looks of things, Dom actually was aware of Han’s survival all along, while the rest had a look of bewilderment on their faces. Even if it is revealed that the other characters knew that Han was alive, why wait up until now for it to be common knowledge?
After all, Fast & Furious 6 was released all the way back in 2013, meaning there’s about seven years worth of a gap - in-universe, there has to be at least 3-5 years since Tokyo Drift - that Han was alive yet remained hidden.
Who Are Dom And The Rest Operating Under?
There’s always been a reason for Dom and his crew to spring into action, and each time it has been a reluctant role on their part. The last couple occasions had Mr. Nobody recruit them, with Hobbs being the one to conduct their activities before that.
However, it’s not clear who is funding them this time round, as both Hobbs and Mr. Nobody don’t seem to be in F9. If that’s the case, our question is how the heck the main characters are managing to circumnavigate the globe and gain access to high tech weapons, cars and gadgets, and who their benefactor is this time around.
