Valiant Entertainment has finally announced a new series relaunch for the popular character Shadowman. Written by Cullen Bunn (Harrow County) and drawn by Jon Davis-Hunt (The Wild Storm), the new horror comic will focus on the Valiant hero of the same name, as he returns to continue protecting reality from the horrors and monsters of the Deadside.

Shadowman first appeared in the pages of Valiant Comics as Jack Boniface in X-O Manowar #4 and in his own solo series in Shadowman #1 - both published in 1992. Created by Jim Shooter, Steve Englehart, and Mike Manley, the character has starred in numerous series since his inception, has appeared in other Valiant titles, and even had his own video game for the Nintendo 64 and Playstation 2. The new series will lean into Shadowman’s horror roots, and Screen Rant is pleased to offer an exclusive look at brand new covers coming fan’s way.

Bunn and Davis-Hunt’s new volume of Shadowman will represent a good jumping-on point for new readers. Valiant Comics editor Heather Antos told Gamespot that there’s no backstory needed to enjoy the upcoming title. You can go in fresh if you’re not caught up with Shadowman or not overly familiar with the horror genre. So, what can you expect from the series? David-Hunt said the series will see Shadowman traveling the world killing monsters.

Bunn’s work in the horror comics is extensive. He’s worked on a handful of horror-related titles including Harrow County, Brother Dracul, Unholy Grail, Army of Darkness, and Death Follows, as well as working on the Marvel Comics series Venom, and The Fearless. Embracing Shadowman’s horror elements seems to be the perfect way to reintroduce the character to new readers while giving familiar readers something new and exciting to check out.

Shadowman is effectively a superhero, operating in a horror movie. He travels the world, hunting monsters, and when he finds them, he punches them into oblivion or slices them up with his seriously lethal shadow-scythe. He protects our reality from the horrors of The Deadside, and though that burden hangs heavy upon him, he still manages to keep a calm, cool attitude, even when he’s faced with unspeakable evil.

Screen Rant has an exclusive first look at covers for the ongoing series. Shadowman #1 will feature covers from Davis-Hunt, Rod Reis, Dave Johnson, and Tony Moore.
