It’s cost him years of battle, and more tests of character than any god has faced before, but the time has come for Thor Odinson, the King of Asgard to take his place on the throne in his new solo comic series. But those fans expecting Thor #1 to start with glory are in for a surprise.
The series is set to relaunch come January 1st, 2020, with a massive transformation coming to Marvel’s God of Thunder. But beyond his physical makeover, and new, darker look, writer Donny Cates has promised to inject some cosmic spectacle into his Thor series along with artist Nic Klein. The publisher knows full well that Thor’s complete visual re-design gets the idea of a new chapter across in seconds. But thanks to our exclusive lettered preview of Thor #1, the message being sent to the Ten Realms can be heard by readers, too. A new king has come to Asgard, and he’s demanding peace. Even if he may not be ready for it…
The first pages of Thor #1 have been glimpsed without dialogue, showing the more Viking-esque Thor on his throne, burdening himself with the creation of a new Asgard, rather than the golden glory of his father, or the bloody battles of his own past. Readers have also gotten a glimpse of Thor’s hammer returning to Asgard with a message of its own, as Thor’s Avengers teammates congratulate him on retirement. But now that the opening pages have been finished, it’s clear how Thor intends to begin his rule. In short: sending Mjolnir across the Ten Realms previously consumed by the War of the Realms to let everyone know his rule will be one of order.
But having embraced his own godhood to win that peace and order, is the crown everything Thor thought it would be? Check out our official preview pages below:
Until the series officially begins in January, fans can read through the official credits and plot synopsis for Thor #1 below.
