The usual gang of idiots are still going strong at MAD Magazine, using February’s issue to send up the hottest shows on television (of yesterday and today). But does it count as a parody… if it’s actually smarter than what viewers are already getting?
After rumors claimed that MAD Magazine was shutting down back in July, DC Comics was quick to reassure fans that wasn’t the case. While still being released on its bimonthly schedule, DC would be turning to both vintage MAD material and new content going forward. That’s what fans are set to receive when MAD Magazine #12 arrives on February 19th, and Screen Rant is here to deliver an exclusive preview of the coming issue. It may all be fun and games when “MAD Screens TV,” but when it comes to the magazine’s proposed RuPaul’s Drag Race spinoffs, MAD may have struck gold.
The issue is filled with reruns and new content, but it’s Grant Reed and Tom Richmond’s “VH1 Drags Out… Even More RuPaul Shows!” that we’re pleased to preview. The tone and humor is exactly what fans have come to expect from MAD, but the shows themselves might actually be downright brilliant. Alyssa Edwards taking on the drag wardrobes of hoarding queens? The chaos of pageant mothers translated to the next generation of drag? A series finally revealing what the Pit Crew does when not on set? All brilliant. But don’t take our word for it, check out the official preview pages below:
The hot RuPaul spinoff of the moment may be AJ & The Queen, but we would expect Reed and Richmond’s phones to be ringing soon, since this level of ingenuity won’t go unnoticed for long. The full issue will arrive in comic book shops for February 19th, meaning fans of MAD and RuPaul’s Drag Race can mark their calendars now!
MAD Magazine #12 will be available from your local comic book shop on February 19th, 2020.
America’s longest-running humor magazine continues to skewer everything pop culture! February’s TV-themed issue is packed with new, original content and a wide variety of vintage MAD favorites (because so many boobs have been on the tube)! Featuring a new “MAD Look at…” by Sergio Aragonés, Spy vs. Spy, and more, MAD will surely make the whole family laugh…while still managing to piss off some folks.
