A first look at the Lannisters’ outfits from Game of Thrones: The Costumes has been revealed. The final season of Game of Thrones premiered earlier this year on HBO, which proved to be the biggest season yet for the show. Lasting only six episodes, season 8 of Game of Thrones packed so many twists into the show that people are still talking about it. Despite the series being over, the HBO franchise lives on with a prequel in development, and of course, merchandise and tie-in materials.
HBO has teamed up with Insight Editions to release a series of books that give fans a detailed look at the making of the hit show. The book Game of Thrones: The Storyboards was released earlier this year, and Insight has plans to release three more books titled The Art of Game of Thrones, The Photography of Game of Thrones, and Game of Thrones: The Costumes. While the release of these books is still a few months away, fans can read a few pages from Game of Thrones: The Costumes.
Thanks to Insight Editions, Screen Rant has an exclusive first look at outfits featured in Game of Thrones: The Costumes. Game of Thrones: The Costumes will be a 320-page hardcover book with photographs of the clothing and behind-the-scenes details about the making of the show. Below are a few pages from the book, which give a detailed look at the costumes that Lena Headey and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau wore on screen. One of these pages also features sketches from Michele Clapton that show ideas for Cersei’s crown that never came to fruition, such as a lion crown that symbolizes the deaths of her three children. Game of Thrones: The Costumes is currently available for pre-order here.
While Game of Thrones came to a close this year, HBO isn’t finished telling tales from Westeros. The stories for Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen may be over, but HBO is currently working on a prequel show which is believed to be called The Long Night. As usual, HBO is keeping details of the show under wraps, but the series will take place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones in what is described as, “the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes”. The prequel has cast its main characters and began filming in June, but the series doesn’t yet have a premiere date.
There is no denying that the eighth season of Game of Thrones got a fair share of criticism from fans, but the quality of the costumes was something that never varied. Game of Thrones: The Costumes will be the best look yet at the outfits seen on screen and the meticulous detail that went into making them for the award-winning show. Even for those that didn’t enjoy the shows eighth season, Game of Thrones: The Costumes will give fans a newfound appreciation for the costume designers of Game of Thrones while getting them excited for the prequel series.
Game of Thrones: The Costumes will be available November 12, 2019 for $75 USD and can be pre-ordered here.
