AMC’s The Walking Dead is crossing over with PUBG Mobile, Screen Rant has exclusively learned. Today, Tencent Games and PUBG Corporation will announce with AMC today their next collaboration for PUBG MOBILE this time with the mega pop culture hit television series The Walking Dead.

Beginning October 1st and running into early 2020, players of the mobile version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will have a chance to traverse the battlefield as familiar heroes from The Walking Dead, or a certain iconic villain. Limited edition in-game items such as character skins, weapons and a vehicle are among the new TWD content coming to the game a well.

PUBG Mobile is one of the world’s most popular mobile games, with over 400 million downloads and 50 million daily users. The crossover content and partnership with AMC is timed with this weekend’s premiere of The Walking Dead season 10 on Sunday, October 6 at 9/8c on AMC. Previous exciting partnerships with the game included crossovers with Resident Evil 2, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

How did The Walking Dead partnership first begin?

Can we expect more The Walking Dead or AMC collaborations in the future?

The team are huge fans of The Walking Dead and we realized that the characters and the themes of the show matched up nicely with the feeling of PUBG MOBILE. Our business development group in the US reached out to AMC and found that they agreed with us! We were both eager to bring The Walking Dead to PUBG MOBILE before the Halloween season started, so it’s been a very fast process.

What additional partnerships can be discussed?

Over the last year, there have been some unique and fun integrations that have come to PUBG MOBILE as a result of collaborating with celebrities, athletes, movies, TV shows, video games and other brands. We’re expecting the PUBG MOBILE community to have a huge response to what we’re doing with TWD, so we can’t rule out working with them again in the future.

What is the criteria PUBG MOBILE uses to decide on targets for potential partnerships?

Previous partnerships have included items from and music by international DJ Alan Walker; a team-up with basketball stars Giannis Antetokounmpo, Ben Simmons, Andre Drummond, Isaiah Thomas and Lonzo Ball; unique items inspired by Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Godzilla: King of the Monsters as well as a deep Resident Evil 2 crossover. We will be revealing a few more exciting collaborations before the end of the year, so please stay tuned.

How successful have the collaborations been and what method does PUBG MOBILE use to determine success?

First and most important is that it must be relevant to our global community. We listen to and work to understand what our gaming community likes and would find entertaining.  We’re not signing up anything that comes our way, we’re being very selective about who we work with as viewed through the perspective of the game and our players.

For the fans - What was the deciding factor that led to you choosing Daryl’s motorcycle over his iconic crossbow?

We’ve had a great response from our community for the collaborations. It’s a global community that is always looking for unique content and events. Engagement and retention are the key determining factors for us.

 

While Daryl is very capable with a crossbow, we felt that players would be much more excited to rev the throttle on his motorcycle. Also we are releasing a rocket launcher which we think Daryl Dixon fans will enjoy.

How does the team weigh the in game items themselves - i.e. shirts for the Godzilla collab versus a motorcycle in this one?

Can you go into the process of working with the AMC team on this collab?

The PUBG MOBILE dev team takes a careful look at the opportunity presented by the partnership to determine what they’d like to see reflected in the game. We felt it would be fun to create unique fashions based on Godzilla as well as including huge footprints and sightings of the giant monster in the water off the coast of Ehrangel. For The Walking Dead, it was obvious that we needed to bring in the four most iconic characters from the show and give them a new battleground in PUBG MOBILE. And we couldn’t bring in Michonne without her katana, Daryl without his bike, Rick without his hat or Negan without Lucille!

Why do a partnership with AMC and their versions of the characters as opposed to the Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic book series?

AMC has been very involved from the very beginning. They have had a lot of experience working with gaming companies, so have been great at reviewing our design documents, character models and ideas, helping us to refine our gameplay ideas to match the integrity of the show. It’s been a surprisingly fast turn-around from first conversation to launch and we’re very happy with the way they’ve embraced the project.
