Facebook is now starting to remove media that’s been manipulated and could be misleading, including deepfakes. Facebook has routinely come under pressure of late for taking a different stance to other social media platforms when it comes to stemming the flow of disinformation. Manipulated videos now appear to be one of the few exceptions. Facebook has continuously defended the right for people to post whatever they want with limited intervention. This even includes information that might be misleading, even if it’s a paid-for ad, and even if that misleading paid-for ad is from a politician....

Earlier this year, Fargo series creator Noah Hawley presented audiences with a unique viewing experience in FX’s Legion. The X-Men adjacent series was made distinct by its colorful, stylish aesthetic and its sometimes-hallucinogenic visuals that made the story of mutant David Haller more than just another superhero tale. Valiant Entertainment has finally announced a new series relaunch for the popular character Shadowman. Written by Cullen Bunn (Harrow County) and drawn by Jon Davis-Hunt (The Wild Storm), the new horror comic will focus on the Valiant hero of the same name, as he returns to continue protecting reality from the horrors and monsters of the Deadside. Shadowman first appeared in the pages of Valiant Comics as Jack Boniface in X-O Manowar #4 and in his own solo series in Shadowman #1 - both published in 1992....

Horror classic The Exorcist received nearly identical prequels, released a year apart, and the reason behind that happening is rather complex. 1973’s The Exorcist is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated horror films ever, earning ten Oscar nominations, and winning two. The Exorcist also became the first horror film to receive a Best Picture nomination, starting what is today still an extremely small club. What can’t be denied is that Instagram for Android has received quite a response among Android users. Reports say that the app has been downloaded over 1 million times in the first 12 hours it was available. I don’t know if that’s what made Facebook want to buy it, it’s confirmed information. Mark Zuckerberg himself has posted the information on his Facebook profile, and the Instagram blog has also posted it, so it doesn’t get more official than this....

Facebook has announced that it has created a ‘war room’ to fight the spread of fake news in the run up to the US midterms, as well as elections in Brazil … Reuters reports that the social network is working with international Republican and Democratic non-profits. The company has been carrying out exercises to test its ability to detect hoax stories, including those geared to voter suppression. The largest social network, under intense pressure to combat propaganda, said it would work abroad with the International Republican Institute and the National Democratic Institute, created in the 1980s and funded by the U....

Marvel releases The Falcon and the Winter Soldier HD poster for the upcoming Disney+ series, showcasing a better look at the concept art. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe TV show, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) team up following the events of Avengers: Endgame. For the first time in a federal case, a suspect has been ordered to use her fingerprint to unlock her iPhone using Touch ID. The LA Times reports that a federal judge signed a warrant allowing the FBI to compel a suspect in an identity theft case to to unlock the phone just 45 minutes after her arrest. The warrant is consistent with a 2014 case where a Virginia District Court ruled that while passcodes are protected by the 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination, fingerprints are not....

Fear the Walking Dead is the spinoff of AMC’s The Walking Dead, which also happens to be the most successful show on cable. The spinoff hasn’t found the same success as the original Walking Dead TV series - but with its unique setting and cast of characters, it has found a dedicated fanbase that have driven the series into a third season. AMC has been keeping any and all details about the newest season of Fear the Walking Dead close to the vest, as the show has been shooting in Baja Mexico....

When Apple released iOS 10 last September, they pushed in a small change when connecting to wireless networks. Tucked away under the Wi-Fi settings, iOS now warns users when connecting to insecure networks that it exposes a user’s network traffic. The easy answer to this is to simply not connect to public wireless networks, but that’s something that most people will just ignore. If users won’t stop connecting to insecure public networks, they could at least start using VPNs and Apple could make it easy to do that....

Some sources suggest that distracted driving is as dangerous as drunk driving. The National Highway & Transportation Administration (NHTSA) reported that in 2015, the most recent year for which full data is available, distracted driving killed 3,477 people and injured 391,000. Using smartphones while driving is the most obvious example of distracted driving, and the NHTSA says that reading or sending a text is the most dangerous form. That’s partly because of the length of time a driver’s eyes are off the road, but also partly because many people find a text hard to ignore....

With the introduction of iPad Pro, now is the time for Apple to finally bring Logic Pro to its tablet. Apple has long had Garageband available for iOS devices, offering what is essentially a feature for feature companion for the desktop Mac app, albeit with a user interface tweaked for the smaller touch display. But it’s not much help to pros that have their workflow in Apple’s professional audio editing suite for Mac, Logic Pro....

Glassdoor has announced that this year’s best place to work – based on anonymous employee reviews – is Facebook. Apple fared rather less well, dropping 48 places from last year’s #36 to this year’s #84 … In the ten years Glassdoor has published the rankings, Apple entered the race at #19, peaked at #10 in 2012 and has been falling for the past three years. This follow’s Tim Cook’s own fall in the CEO rankings, from #8 to #53 back in the summer....

Facebook is pushing hard to compete with Clubhouse and Twitter in the audio category. As reported by Axios, Mark Zuckerberg’s company is working on podcast features and other new audio-focused products. Zuckerberg said Facebook’s launching a “suite of new tools and features designed to help users better connect with each other and their favorite creators.” Facebook is working in three main products, which are: Soundbits, Podcasts, and Live audio. Speaking to a community on the chat app Discord Monday hosted by independent journalist Casey Newton, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg provided a product roadmap for how it plans to build out its audio suite in the next 3-6 months....

Fallout 76’s Wastelanders update is finally officially coming April 7 - and it includes a game launch for Steam.
