Whilst Facebook employees are currently struggling to launch their own apps, Facebook is still able to update its own customer-facing app on the App Store. Today, it did just that. This update brings native support for the iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR screen resolutions. Up to now, Facebook on the new screen size iPhone models would run in a compatibility mode, scaling up the 5.8-inch iPhone XS resolution onto the larger displays....

As it continues its quest to offer more informative and useful information to users, Facebook appears to be testing a new feature that would offer users city-specific news, events, and more. As reported by TechCrunch, Facebook is calling this feature “Today In” and testing it in select markets… Initially, Facebook is testing “Today In” with a handful of cities around the United States: New Orleans, Louisiana; Olympia, Washington; Billings, Montana; Binghamton, New York; Peoria, Illinois and Little Rock, Arkansas....

Apple’s Health app in iOS 10 prominently displays Nutrition as one of the four main categories on the Health Data dashboard, but adding detailed information currently requires a third-party meal logging app with HealthKit support. Apple recommends a variety of solutions that work well including Lifesum and MyFitnessPal, but ultimately a native meal logging feature and first party food database would make the Health app much more useful. I personally use the Health app regularly to monitor trends over time like Activity which the Apple Watch captures and Weight which my smart scale adds, but I don’t open the Health app daily....

Dreams is a strange offering. The PS4 exclusive allows players to showcase their talent by creating anything they want, from art to video games. But despite its reliance on the talent of others for success, creators have no way to capitalize on their masterpieces. Nothing, including the Fallout 4 creation, can be exported outside the app, and there’s no way for amateur designers to make money. Despite this incredibly one-sided deal, many have created some impressive things using Dreams during its early access period....

Machelle Hackney, creator of YouTube’s hit series, Fantastic Adventures, has been arrested and charged with abuse, neglect and unlawful imprisonment of her seven adopted children. The popular YouTube channel featured Hackney’s children in superhero-like themes. The stars of Hackney’s YouTube series have claimed that horrific abuse and neglect were taking place when the camera was not rolling. Fantastic Adventures is a YouTube channel that has accumulated more than 250 million views and features a cast of seven adorable adopted children and other adults....

Vin Diesel has confirmed the first trailer for Fast & Furious 9 will arrive in January 2020. It’s been more than two years since audiences last saw Diesel’s Dominic “Dom” Toretto on the big screen in the eighth Fast & Furious film, The Fate of the Furious. The FBI has been unable to access data from “more than half” of the devices it has tried to unlock over the past year, according to a new report from The Associated Press. FBI director Christopher Wray made the comment while speaking at a conference over the weekend, acknowledging that there needs to be a balance between encryption and public safety… According to Wray, the FBI has been unable to access data on more than 6,900 mobile devices over the last 11 months....

Doubt has been cast on the story that Apple gave in to FBI pressure on iCloud backups, and abandoned plans to switch to end-to-end encryption for these. In particular, it appears that the timing behind the claim may not be right… Background Current iCloud backups are encrypted, but Apple holds the key, so can access the data. When law enforcement agencies want to access a locked iPhone, Apple cannot help them directly, but it can provide them with a copy of any iCloud backup of the device....
