The producer of Final Fantasy 7 Remake has said in a new interview that the updated JRPG has been informed by Insomniac’s Spider-Man and other modern games. The remake has been in development at Square Enix since 2015, and is finally approaching its long-awaited release date in March of this year. As one of the most frequently requested remakes of all time, the modern rendition of Final Fantasy 7 is one of the most anticipated games of 2020....

An SEC filing today confirmed that Facebook intends to purchase the WhatsApp messaging service for $16 billion. WhatsApp is available on a host of platforms, including iOS and Android, and acts as an alternative SMS service. It’s likely that Facebook wants to integrate the app’s technology into Facebook’s own Messenger client, which recently gained SMS-style phone number-based messaging. Facebook has provided more details of the sale, which will include $4 billion in cash and $12 billion in Facebook stock....

Facebook today issued a notable update to its Facebook Messenger iOS app today, bringing three major iOS 9 and watchOS 2 enhancements. Most importantly, today’s update includes the native Apple Watch application introduced at Apple’s September 9th event. The app has support for viewing and responding to conversations as well as sending stickers. Specific to the iPad, Facebook Messenger’s interface is now dynamic so it can support split-screen apps in the updated multitasking view....

Recent developments with The Flash solo film, still starring Ezra Miller, could signal Ray Fisher reprising the role of Cyborg in the movie. The Flash has had to go through a longer, more arduous path to get made than most superhero movies, but fans of The Fastest Man Alive were recently greeted with some hopeful news with IT director Andy Muschietti entering talks to direct the film. Muschietti is the latest in what has been a revolving door of directors for Barry Allen’s solo outing, but the addition of Christina Hodson as screenwriter does indicate that the film’s development hell may finally be coming to an end, given her screenwriting role on the upcoming Birds of Prey....

Facebook is currently testing a version of its slimmed-down Facebook Lite for iPhone. The app has previously only been available for Android. Designed for people who want to minimize data usage, Facebook Lite helps in a couple of ways … First, the app itself is just 5MB, using less data to download, and using less storage capacity on the device. (The difference is not, however, as great as Business Insider suggests: the 500MB they claim for the main app is a result of an App Store bug that saw the wrong app sizes reported....

He has now revealed in an interview with Gamespot that he has ideas for a FFXIV battle royale game, which sounds like an intriguing thought. Yoshida has spent the past 6 years working on FFXIV, both as the producer and the director, under the watchful eye of Square Enix....

Starting when the clock officially turns to February 14th in your location, Facebook Messenger will offer a slew of Valentine’s Day features for those couples who are madly in love. The company announced the features in a blog post, saying that they allow for you to “feel the love with Messenger.” Facebook says that starting on Valentine’s Day, when you make your relationship “Facebook official,” you’ll get a Messenger notification that instantly connects you to your new partner....
