We reported back in October on an iOS exploit that caused iPhones to repeatedly dial 911 without user intervention. It was said then that the volume of calls meant one 911 center was in ‘immediate danger’ of losing service, while two other centers had been at risk – but a full investigation has now concluded that the incident was much more serious than it appeared at the time. It was initially thought that a few hundred calls were generated in a short time, but investigators now believe that one tweeted link that activated the exploit was clicked on 117,502 times, each click triggering a 911 call....

The Wizarding World expands yet again with the casting of Callum Turner. As much as I think the Apple Music user interface is still a total jumbled mess, I do think there are also a few features that Apple should add as it simultaneously cleans up what’s already there. A big one for me is the potential for private, collaborative playlists and streaming radio stations. What Apple Music currently has, as far as users sharing music goes, is the ability to share a playlist, station, album or song from within the app via email, third-party apps or copying the link to share elsewhere....

Facebook says that a “configuration change” affected people’s ability to access the Facebook app on their iPhone on Friday evening, but the issue appears to have since been resolved for most users. A new feature in Facebook Messenger is now rolling out that scans photos added to your camera roll in search of your Facebook friends, and suggests that you send them to the people it finds. It’s a pretty nifty feature, if you feel comfortable with Facebook looking at every single photo you take on your device and constantly processing data on the friends you’re hanging out with… When you first enable the feature, Messenger will go searching for a recent photo on your phone that contains a Facebook friend to show you how it works....

Apple will launch its mobile payment platform Apple Pay in Ireland tomorrow we have learned from two separate sources with knowledge of the matter. The move comes as we’re also expecting a launch sooner rather than later in Taiwan. Apple Pay allows users to complete transactions in-person, online, and in-app with their iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac. In Ireland, Apple Pay will be supported by UlsterBank and KBC, both of which are multinational and have supported Apple Pay in other countries for some time now....

If you’re already an Apple Music subscriber, you’re probably familiar with the “For You” tab, which suggests new songs, artists, and playlists based on what you’ve been listening to. With iOS 14, a similar feature will be available within Apple’s Podcasts app, according to people familiar with the matter. That means the Podcasts app will learn about your personal preferences to suggest new podcasts available on the platform, making it more customized for each user....

Fb.gg, Facebooks very own gaming hub was launched in summer this year to attract all the game lovers to join Facebook to watch videos and play games rather than go to their rival sites. This hub gives you a window to see which game or streaming celebrities users are following including other groups and Liked Pages. You also get suggestions on what’s available for watching. Now, till date Fb.gg was available only for desktops but, now it’s available for Android devices as well, OK, for now, it’s available only in the Philippines....

Filmmaker Josh Trank says he would “gladly” donate to a GoFundMe campaign to erase his infamous Fantastic Four movie reboot from existence - if such a campaign were possible, of course. Fantastic Four was the source of constant rumors about behind-the-scenes problems throughout the entirety of its production, with Trank being at the center of many of the issues that were said to plague the film. The rumors included conflicts on the set between Trank and Miles Teller and Trank’s supposed behavior costing him the director’s chair of the Star Wars anthology film about Boba Fett....

With one iOS device update out of the way for 2012, Apple is working on updates to the iPhone and iPod touch. While these updates are expected, we’ve learned some details about this new iPhone and iPod touch. First, the new iPhone. Much like they did last year, Apple has internally seeded a prototype next-generation iPhone with the iPhone 4 design. The actual next-generation iPhone is specifically said to not include the iPhone 4/4S design, but Apple is testing these new devices in older casings to throw off leaks....

Analysis of more than 115M Internet speed tests reveals that Irvine, California, has the best broadband in the country, with an average download speed of 124Mbps and an upload speed of 52Mbps … Unsurprisingly, that was on Google Fiber, as were most of the top 10 cities, shown below. Worst was Buffalo, New York, where Spectrum offered 65Mbps downloads and 17Mbps uploads. Speed test company Ookla said that it calculated the rankings by using a weighted average of upload and download speeds....
