This week I bought and played through my first audiobook in iBooks (Shoe Dog) after realizing I have a habit of buying a lot of books then rarely making time to actually read them. I finished the 13 hour 22 minute book over the weekend and really enjoyed the experience (and the book). It was expected to take on apps like Flipboard, thanks to its full screen distraction-free UI with gesture based navigation. But looks like Facebook is keen to make it more than a news discovery and reader app. With proper notifications, Paper should replace the default Facebook app for many people, including yours truly. There are hardly few things it doesn’t come with, like Events & Page administration. Facebook announced today it will be rolling out a new social feature to its mobile app called Nearby Friends. The feature allows Facebook users to occasionally receive notifications when common friends are in similar locations similar to features offered by Foursquare and Apple’s Find My Friends service. In its announcement, Facebook emphasizes that the location sharing feature is opt-in meaning users will have to actively decide to turn on the feature rather than the social network flipping the feature on for everyone....

Spider-Man: Far From Home will hit digital and Blu-ray in the (very) near future. Released in theaters this July, Far From Home was the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, picking up after the events of Avengers: Endgame as Peter Parker mourned the loss of Tony Stark and accepted the responsibility of being the “next Iron Man.” Earning positive reviews from critics, Far From Home was also a massive commercial success, becoming Sony’s highest-grossing film of all-time and the first Spider-Man movie to hit $1 billion worldwide....

A lot of the apps on the new Apple TV bring similar experiences as on iOS to the big screen, but we’re bound to see some unique apps designed specifically for the living room that perhaps didn’t make a lot of sense on smaller or mobile devices. Robocalls have grown to become a major problem in the United States, and the FCC is working to create new legislation to hopefully help solve the issue for good. A new proposal from the FCC aims to crack down on robocalls that originate from overseas, or ones that evade spoofing laws. As detailed by TechCrunch, the new proposal is a follow-up to the Ray Baum’s Act, which specifically prohibited international spoofing and robocall practices using VoIP....
